The Giants! Yes, the FVC team played a part in this magical project.
Tourism WA, in partnership with the City of Mandurah, engaged international artist Thomas Dambo to construct the five wooden Giant sculptures around the Mandurah region. Stakeholder consultation determined potential sculpture locations. After a thorough review, guided by the artist and in consultation with the community, five sites were chosen by the working group of FORM, the City of Mandurah and the Peel Harvey Catchment Council. The five sites are located in the suburbs of Parklands, Coodanup, Halls Head, Dawesville and Yalgorup.
Project managers, FORM, commissioned FVC to undertake and report on environmental assessment of each location, to provide a general ecological impact assessment and recommendations. To the delight of all involved, there were no significant constraints identified for any of the sites, and construction of the Giants in their new homes was permitted to proceed. For us, and to keep the magic alive, we held onto the secret of the project and the locations – especially the SECRET HIDDEN GIANT location!
The Giants project ignited a fire in our team to pursue more feel-good projects, and so, the term ‘Project for Good’ was born for FVC.
