Since 2022, FVC has been commissioned by three separate local governments to prepare their Local Biodiversity Strategies.
A Local Biodiversity Strategy takes stock on the biodiversity assets, identifies threats to these, and determines and prioritises action plans to manage the threats and to protect and enhance biodiversity.
In order to achieve the best-possible outcomes for Biodiversity Strategies, it is essential to bring together suitably-detailed biodiversity data across the municipality, identify the threats and opportunities in consultation with local stakeholders and marry all of this with suitable and realistic actions for implementation. The FVC team is well-suited to facilitating such projects, with in-house expertise in both biodiversity studies and environmental management.
A highlight of the three projects has been with the City of Kwinana in 2022. The LBS was awarded a Commendation by the Planning Institute of Australia as part of its Awards for Excellence in Planning, in the category of Climate Change and Resilience. FVC’s Managing Director/Principal Ecologist, Kellie Bauer-Simpson, was honoured to attend the awards dinner and receive the award alongside City of Kwinana colleagues.
