Tonkin Gap

Following the completion of NorthLink and Gateway highway upgrades, a bottleneck over the Swan River emerged.  Tonkin Gap has bridged this gap.

This is an oldie, but a goodie for the FVC team, representing one of our earliest collaborations of the Biological and Environmental Assessments and Management (EAM) teams.  Our work also contributed to exceptional outcomes for both the project and the environment, and so, we still like to brag about it.  Originally a biological assessment scope, the FVC team, in collaboration with our specialist partners, Bamford Consulting Ecologists, completed comprehensive flora, vegetation, fauna and habitat assessments and reporting for the project area.  As an extension to this work, FVC continued to assist Main Roads by completing the environmental impact assessment, State and Commonwealth referrals, including Referral Supporting Documentation, and required management plans.

In close collaboration with Main Roads, and due to the high level of detail used for surveys, thorough EIA and robust impact mitigation and management commitments, an exceptional result of ‘Not Assessed’ by State and Commonwealth regulators was achieved.  This result facilitated prompt commencement of project construction, which in-turn enabled its completion to the vastly improved piece of infrastructure now in operation.
